Petar Dimitrov
Eng. Petar Dimitrov – Minister of Environment and Water
Eng. Petar Dimitrov was born in 1973. He holds a Master's Degree in Hydromelioration Engineering, with specializations in Bulgaria, Japan, Germany, and Italy. He has worked in the largest in territorial scope Basin Directorate in Bulgaria – the one for the Danube Region for 20 years. Within the Directorate, he has held various expert and managerial positions, and for more than 5 years he served as the Director.
From May to December 2021 and from August 2022 to the beginning of June 2023, he served as interim Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Environment and Water.
He has participated in the development of strategic and regulatory documents in the field of water management at the national and European levels. He has represented the country in expert groups of the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River. He has led and participated in a number of national and international projects related to water conservation and sustainable water management.
In the period 2003-2020 he was actively involved in the development, updating, and implementation of the Water Management and Flood Risk Management Plans of the Danube Region and the International Danube Basin.
In his work, he has been guided by the principles of sustainable development and environmental and water protection.
Prior to becoming Minister of Environment and Water, he was Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Environment and Water between June 2023 and April 2024.
