A light show on climate change transformed the National Palace of Culture
28 Jul, 2024 | 14:10Last night, the “Horizon” light show transformed the facade of the National Palace of Culture (NPC) and 200 drones lit up the sky over Sofia in a 10-minute spectacle with messages about climate change, the important role of science in finding solutions, and our personal responsibility.
The “Horizon” project was created for the Bulgarian hosting of the 61st Plenary Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) by the Ministry of Environment and Water in Sofia.
From 27 July to 2 August, nearly 500 delegates from 150 member countries of the panel will discuss important issues related to drafting the organisation's reports during the Seventh Assessment Cycle, which started last July. The official opening took place yesterday morning and was attended by the Minister of Environment and Water Petar Dimitrov, the IPCC Chairman Jim Skea, the Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, the Deputy Foreign Minister Nevyana Miteva, and representatives of the intergovernmental panel.
“Horizon" is dedicated to climate change and reminds us of the inextricable link between humans and nature, and the responsibility we have for the future of humanity and our common home.
The “Horizon” light show will also illuminate the National Palace of Culture for the next two evenings on 28 and 29 July from 22:00 to 23:30.
The project is implemented with the financial support of the Environment Programme 2021-2027 and Sofia Municipality. The light show "Horizon" was created in partnership with Impact Nest while the artwork was authored by MP STUDIO.
