“I want to assure the people of the Northwest that I started my career with work on the ‘Hemus’ highway as a surveyor of the Pravets-Dzhurovo section, I approved the completion of the foundations of the highest bridge - Bebresh, and then I worked for 25 years in the MOEW and I am well acquainted with the entire process. The caretaker government came to a broken administration in both the RIA and the Ministry of Environment and Water,” the caretaker Minister of Environment and Water Asen Lichev told BNR.

Minister Lichev responded on “Horizont” air  to the statement by Mikhail Mikov, Chairman of the 42nd National Assembly during the radio program “Horizont po obed” yesterday that he challenges the decision by the Minister of Environment and Water to terminate the procedure for Environmental Impact Assessment for the tunnel under the “Petrohan” Pass. Asen Lichev stated:

“This so-called investment proposal was submitted by the old management of RIA as a provocation, because it does not contain the elements of an investment proposal within the meaning of the Environmental Act. But our officials, they have made a mistake on the side of the Ministry, therefore: today I will revoke this decision that terminates the EIA of the route under the ‘Petrohan’ tunnel. And I will set a condition to RIA to submit the proposal in due time in accordance with all requirements,” Asen Lichev told BNR.

“Thus, it will no longer be possible to use this decision and influence the delicate sentiments of the people in the current pre-election situation,” said the caretaker Minister of Environment and Water.
