Exhibition "Energy for the People"
The exhibition “Energy for the People” tells the stories of people across Europe who are looking for ways to make not only their own households, but also their communities and neighborhoods energy independent. It presents an up-to-date picture of homes in five European countries – Bulgaria, Belgium, Spain, Poland, and Portugal.
We have seen the cost of energy spiral out of control since 2021 and the climate become increasingly unpredictable. In this situation, more and more people are realizing that the old models of production, supply and consumption are no longer viable. For many years we have not thought about how energy gets to us. Only the bill at the end of the month reminds us of this. New technologies and the ability to work together give us an unprecedented opportunity to achieve energy independence. Every crisis speeds up processes, but we need to look after those people who are most in need – people with health problems, the elderly, and those living in poor housing conditions.
Nearly half of all Bulgarians live in energy poverty. Across Europe, the number of energy poor people is about 50 million. Energy poverty has many faces and sometimes goes beyond the struggle to pay the bills at the end of the month. Some households cannot heat or cool their homes; other families cannot afford to cook or provide the light they need. "Energy for the People” looks at these problems, but also offers solutions.
The admission is free.
