Extending the service life of the Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 plant units and uprating their thermal power at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in Finland

Today, 30.12.2024, the Ministry of Environment and Waters (MoEW) of Bulgaria provides public access to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the project "Extension of the operational Life and increase of the thermal capacity of Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 Units of the  Nuclear Power Plant in  Olkiluoto, Finland', with Teollisuuden Voima Oyj as the contracting authority (the MoEW was notified of the consultation on the EIA report by the Finnish Environment Institute by letter with реф. № SYKE/2023/1899/10.12.2024, Noдоf MoEW 99-00-592-1/10.12.2024).

The EIA report is published on the website of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland (coordinating authority for the EIA procedure) at the following address:https://tem.fi/en/olkiluoto-1-and-2-eia-report in English, Finnish and Swedish. Summaries of the report are published in eight languages.

The public consultation on the EIA report for the project "Extension of the operational Life and increase of the thermal capacity of Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 Units of the  Nuclear Power Plant in  Olkiluoto, Finland" will be held on 6 February 2025 from 17.30 to 19.30 in the municipal hall inOlkiluoto . The meeting will take place in the Municipality of Eurajoki, Finland. Participation in the event will also be possible via remote access. The link for remote participation will be updated before the meeting at tvo.fi/yva.

Deadline for contributions - 29.01.2025.

Today, 11.03.2024, the Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW)  of Bulgaria makes available to the public a letter with reference No SYKE/2023/1899 from the Finnish Environment Institute, as the contact point of the Espoo Convention in Finland. The letter specifies access to the documentation and notification under Article 3 of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention) at https://tem.fi/en/olkiluoto-ol1-ja-ol2-eia-programme on the possibility of extending the lifetime of the Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 units and increasing their thermal capacity at the Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant in Finland.

The letter sets a deadline of 16.04.2024 to apply for participation in a cross-border EIA procedure.

Response  of the Ministry of Environment and Water of the Republic of Bulgaria - by letter No 99-00-39 of 16.04.2024, the Minister of Environment and Water requested participation in the transboundary EIA procedure concerning the possibility of extending the lifetime of the Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 units and increasing their thermal capacity at the Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant in Finland.
