The Green Olympics aim to teach children more about nature and its conservation. Children and young people compete online and there are attractive prizes for the winners. The initiative is organised annually since 2011 by Academica BG and is supported by the Ministry of Environment and Water.

For this year's edition a wide range of questions related to plants, animals, endangered species, and Bulgarian nature and national parks have been prepared. After registering on the online platform https://zelenaolimpiada.com/, each participant receives a list of closed-ended questions, as well as one concluding open-ended question requiring the submission of a short essay. This essay question will determine the final winners. The prizes are three tablets - one for the winner in each of the categories: elementary, middle, and high school.

The platform is active for registration and test solving from today, 10 November 2023, until 10 December 2023. The winners will be announced on December 14, 2023 on the website of the Olympics.

The Green Olympics, under the auspices of the Minister of Environment and Water, has established itself as the most mainstream online educational initiative that encourages children and youth to consolidate their knowledge about nature and its conservation and contributes to the formation of an environmental culture, while its competitive nature stimulates them to seek information about these topics. The online format allows children and young people from all over the country to participate.
