The Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov discussed important topics from the environmental and climate policy agenda with Wopke Hoekstra, European Commissioner for Climate, Net Zero, and Clean Growth.

During the meeting, Minister Genov and Commissioner Hoekstra exchanged views on aspects related to the European Union's 2040 climate target, the energy transition, and the means to achieve it, the European Emissions Trading System, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, and the Clean Industry Pact.

Minister Genov presented the Commissioner with the main challenges facing our country on the path to the green transition and emphasized that the successful implementation of the necessary just transition steps will be possible only by ensuring public acceptability and securing the necessary investments.

Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra expressed gratitude for the opportunity to discuss EU policies in the field of climate and clean growth. The meeting was also attended by the Head of the EC Representation in Bulgaria Yordanka Chobanova.

Commissioner Hoekstra is visiting Bulgaria as part of his tour of Member States. Meetings were also held with Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev and Minister of Finance Temenuzhka Petkova.
