The Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov met with the Mayor of the capital city municipality Vasil Terziev on initiative by the Mayor. The focus of the meeting was on issues of high public importance, related to waste management in Sofia, the Vitosha Nature Park, and the progress with work on the introduction of the deposit system at the national level.

The two sides outlined their joint actions in the medium and long term. They agreed around the position that the deposit system will be a useful measure in the fight against unregulated landfills, which pose a serious challenge to every municipality. Manol Genov and Vasil Terziev share the firm position that the arbitrary disposal of waste outside regulated areas should be criminalized.

The Minister and the Mayor agreed on the need for a constructive approach in the joint work of the national executive and local authorities, whereby Manol Genov expressing full readiness to assist Sofia Municipality in addressing its environmental commitments.
