Keep the Danube blue - this appeal was shared with the Minister of Environment and Water Petar Dimitrov to the participants in the traditional celebration on June 29 in the village of Baykal, Dolna Mitropolia municipality. Minister Dimitrov reminded that the Danube Day has been celebrated in all countries of the Danube basin for 20 years. He took part in the traditional ritual in the village of Baikal by throwing a wreath into the river and sending messages for the protection of the river.

Bird watching, analysis of samples from the river and outdoor drawing sessions were just some of the initiatives in Baykal on the occasion of 29 June - Danube Day. The highlight of the programme was the presentation of the authentic Kalushari ritual.

Danube Day has been marked since 2004 and aims to draw attention to the importance and the conservation of the Danube and its tributaries. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Cooperation for the Protection and Sustainable Use of the Danube and the 20th anniversary of Danube Day. The motto of the campaign on the occasion of 29 June is again "Keep the Danube Blue".
