MOEW discussed measures for implementation of the National Waste Management Plan
25 Jun, 2021 | 15:09The Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Reneta Koleva met with representatives of the Bulgarian Association of the Cement Industry (BACI), the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB) and the cement plants - Holcim Bulgaria EAD, Devnya Cement AD, and Zlatna Panega Cement AD. The meeting was provoked by a letter by the Association, and the MOEW invited all stakeholders.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss the prospects and joint efforts to increase the quantities of modified fuels used in the three cement plants - RDF originating from the pre-treatment facilities owned by the municipalities. Dialogue and joint actions to this end are necessary due to the new goals introduced at the beginning of the year in the Waste Management Act to reduce the amount of landfilled waste, according to which by 31st December 2035 the amount of landfilled municipal waste should be reduced to 10 percent or less of the total amount of household waste. As a result of the meeting, it was agreed to draft a proposal with characteristics that must be fulfilled by modified fuels, in order to meet the requirements of cement plants while ensuring the quality of their products and environmental protection.
