The Directorate General for Fire Safety and Population Protection (DGFSPP) demonstrated the newly delivered forest fire extinguishing equipment purchased under the Environment Program at an event to mark the progress in the implementation of the project “Increasing the technical security and capacity of the structural units of the DGFSPP and preparing the population for responding to forest fires”.
The Directorate General for Fire Safety and Population Protection at Ministry of Interior is a beneficiary of the project with an associated partner - the Academy of the Ministry of Interior. The total budget of the project amounts to 169 964 169 BGN with a 5-year implementation period. The overall goal is to improve the capacity for forest fire prevention and response by providing specialized technical means and equipment, as well as creating a methodological framework for preparing the population for protection and response.
“For us, the partnership with the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection is of utmost importance. I am very glad that the financial resources provided under the Environment Program are finding their most appropriate application,” said the Head of the Managing Authority of the Environment Program 2021-2027 eng. Galina Simeonova. “We strongly believe that our joint actions before disasters occur are the most appropriate,” she added.
“This is the first of many events related to the project to upgrade the capabilities to deal with forest fires,” emphasized the Director of the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov.
A demonstration of some of the equipment delivered to date under the project was made during the event. 1 500 sets of breathing apparatus, 3 000 cylinders, 7 500 masks, 1 500 hoods, 28 compressor installations for filling the cylinders for breathing apparatus, and 23 apparatus testing stands were delivered.
The project also includes the delivery of specialized vehicles for firefighting and operational activities - light, medium and heavy class, mobile systems for extinguishing forest fires, personal protective equipment and other. The implementation of the activities will ensure the necessary capacity for responding to forest fires with timely and adequate actions of the territorial units of the GDFSPP. This will ensure rapid dispatch to the fire sites and timely actions to limit and eliminate forest fires in a short time and with minimal damage.
