RIEW-Pleven referred a case of a shot eagle to the prosecution

- The Criminal Code foresees imprisonment of up to three years or probation, as well as a fine of 2 000 to 10 000 BGN for the shooter.
On 29.09.2023 in the land of the village of Disevitsa, municipality of Pleven, a specimen of the snake eagle was found in a helpless condition. The bird was sent to the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Stara Zagora for treatment and shelter. After an examination by veterinarians and an X-ray, it became clear that the eagle had been shot - a bullet was visible in the right wing near the elbow joint.
The snake eagle /Circaetus gallicus/ is a protected species, included in Annex 3 to Article 37 of the Biodiversity Act.
RIEW-Pleven has referred the case to the District Prosecutor's Office - Pleven to establish sufficient evidence of a crime under Article 278d of the Criminal Code, which foresees imprisonment of up to three years or probation, as well as a fine of 2 000 to 10 000 BGN for the shooter.
