A team of RIEW-Ruse carried out today an unplanned inspection in Razgrad on a signal of unpleasant odors in the city. The inspection was ordered by the Minister of Environment and Water Petar Dimitrov, and the team was joined by the director of the environmental inspection Anelia Nikolova.
Checks were carried out in the area of the discharges into the Beli Lom River of the City Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP)-Razgrad, Biovet AD - Razgrad branch, ADM - Razgrad EAD and Vodstroy AD - Razgrad. No unpleasant odours were detected during the inspection. In the area around the discharge points an obstruction in the river was found due to a fallen tree, which significantly reduced its natural conductivity. At the outlet of the Razgrad WWTP a visible sediment was observed. From the outlet of the wastewater treatment plant water samples have been taken for physico-chemical analysis, which will be tested in the Regional Laboratory - Ruse at the Executive Agency Environment.
According to information from residents of Razgrad this morning, in the central parts of the city unpleasant smells were felt, which are likely caused by the overflows of the sewerage network. "Water Supply Dunav" EOOD in Razgrad - the operator of the sewage network - has been instructed to carry out an inspection of the sewerage network, the rainwater overflows and the shafts within one week and, if necessary, to clean them of blockages within one month.
A further instruction to clean the river bed and the river bank will be given to the local authority.
