Sofia welcomes delegates for the 61st IPCC Session with a light show dedicated to climate
20 Jul, 2024 | 10:44Sofia will welcome nearly 500 delegates from 150 countries for the 61st Session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-61) of the United Nations. The forum will be held from July 27 to August 2 and is hosted by the Ministry of Environment and Water. This is the largest event related to climate science that has been held in Bulgaria.
Participants in the 61st Session of the IPCC, residents and guests of Sofia will be spectators of the "Horizon" light show, which will illuminate the National Palace of Culture (NPC) on three consecutive evenings from July 27 to 29 from 22:00 to 23:30. The project is dedicated to climate issues and reminds us of the intricate relationship between man and nature, as well as the responsibility we bear for the future of humanity and our common home.
The show "Horizon" is a combination of 3D mapping technology with dynamic images that will transform the facade of the National Palace of Culture with messages about climate change, the important role of science in finding solutions, and our personal responsibility.
For the launch of the event on July 27, 200 drones will light up the sky above Sofia in a 10-minute drone show with light shapes and messages about the importance of climate action.
The project was realized thanks to the support of the "Environment" Program 2021-2027, which funds measures nationally for building a comprehensive system for prevention and preemption of disaster and flood risks, and the Municipality of Sofia. The show takes place under the patronage of the Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev.
The “Horizon” light show was created in partnership with Impact Nest, organizers of the impressive Wake Up multimedia show under the Al Wasl Dome during the World Summit for Climate Action, COP28. The authors of the art work are the creators of the Festival of Lights LUNAR – MP-STUDIO.
