  • The European Environment Agency (EEA) invites all nature and photography lovers from across Europe to capture the essence of our cities through inspiring moments that bring us joy and hope for a more sustainable tomorrow.

The European Environment Agency has launched the Urban Treasures 2024 photo competition. The aim of this year's Urban Treasures photo competition is to celebrate through photos the progress we are making to green and improve our neighbourhoods, to portray our cities and towns not just as concrete grids but as living, breathing ecosystems, to celebrate the positive steps and actions taken towards a more sustainable tomorrow - one where cities thrive with nature and neighbourhoods develop as vibrant, ecological havens.

Entrants can submit photos in three categories that inspire them to capture hope-filled moments in their everyday lives:

  • Urban Wildlife
  • Charming neighbourhoods
  • Green at heart

Choose your best photos (maximum 5) and submit them via the online form in one or more categories before 1 October 2024. Close-up, bird's-eye or eye-level photos are accepted. Be sure to read the Terms and Conditions for participation before submitting.

The winner in each category will receive a cash prize of EUR 1 000. Additional prizes of EUR 500 will be awarded to the best young entrant, as well as the public's favourite photo, which will be determined by public online voting between 30 October and 13 November 2024.

Entrants must submit their photos by 1 October 2024, 23.59 (CEST). The winning projects will be announced on 29 November 2024.

Who can participate?

All participants must be 18 years of age or older and a national of one of the 27 EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
