The Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov met with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bulgaria H.E. Mrs. Irene Plank.

The two discussed issues in the field of environment and climate. Germany highly values Bulgaria’s accession to the Federal Republic of Germany and G7’s initiative “Climate for Peace”. Popov and Plank also discussed the German candidacy for the vice-chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the Seventh Assessment Cycle, within the context of the upcoming elections for the IPCC Chair and Bureau (Nairobi, Kenya, 25-28 July 2023).

Other topics of discussion included the positions of Bulgaria and Germany on the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive, the “Fit for 55” package to meet the EU’s 2030 climate target, and the European framework for the certification of carbon sinks.
