On an hourly basis, the Ministry of Environment and Water receives data on air quality in the area of the village of Gara Elin Pelin after the fire erupted in the fireworks warehouse.

Although elevated values of fine particulate matter (PM10) were recorded in the first hours after the start of the fire, there is now enough data to calculate the daily average value for the past 24-hour period for 26 July. It was 39 micrograms/m3, which does not exceed the regulatory standard of 50 micrograms/m3. Already yesterday in the late afternoon hourly values had normalized to an average of 12 mg/m3.

At present, the data from the mobile laboratory confirm that no recorded values exceed the hourly average standards for sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone. There have also been no exceeding values of the eight-hour standard for carbon dioxide.

To date, the air quality indicators do not exceed the regulated standards and do not endanger human and animal life and health in the region.

The Environment Executive Agency's mobile laboratory is located for continuous monitoring in the village of Gara Elin Pelin, about 1 km from the warehouse - the nearest downwind safe settlement in the area where power is permitted and available. It will continue to monitor air quality in the area and provide updates as necessary.
